Since 2004 the Palazzo della Cultura has housed the collection of documents of Engineer Antonio Veggiani (1924-1996), a noted scholar and researcher, who was from Mercato Saraceno.

The collection essentially consists of materials relevant to the geology and history of Romagna and the Montefeltro area, and in particular of the valleys of the Savio, Uso and Rubicon rivers.  The documentary section contains manuscripts, extracts pertaining to science, archeology and astronomy, and photographs.  The mineralogy section displays numerous fossils and minerals, including a precious 625-gram amber ovoid found by Veggiani near Campaolo, a village in the district of Sogliano al Rubicone; it is one of the largest pieces of amber in Europe.

Timetable

The entire collection is accessible to scholars and interested persons on Monday and Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with the possibility of consulting texts directly on site (tel. 0541-817350).
